Valerie Schneider is a Professor of Law and Director of the Clinical Law Center at Howard University School of Law. She joined the faculty in 2012 and teaches courses including Property, Sexuality, Marriage and the Supreme Court, and Legal Methods, as well as directing the Fair Housing Clinic. Her educational background includes: J.D. (with honors) from the George Washington University Law School B.A. (magna cum laude) from the University of Pennsylvania Professor Schneider's research focuses on Housing Law and Civil Rights , with particular expertise in Fair Housing , Affordable Housing Development , and the intersection of Algorithms and Housing Justice . Her work examines how criminal background checks and big data algorithms perpetuate racial discrimination in housing, and she advocates for disparate impact theory under the Fair Housing Act. Her recent publications reveal a strong trend in analyzing systemic barriers to housing, especially the impact of technology and criminal justice involvement on marginalized communities.
