Prof. Irena Kostova, DSc., is a full professor at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Sofia. She holds a doctorate from Mendeleev University in Moscow and has been teaching since 1994, specializing in General and Inorganic Chemistry. Her research focuses on theoretical and coordination chemistry, vibrational spectroscopy, and pharmacological investigations of biologically active compounds. She has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles, 3 textbooks, and 4 monographs, with significant contributions to lanthanide complex synthesis and drug design. Dr. Kostova has collaborated internationally with institutions in India, Germany, Austria, and beyond. She serves as an editor for 6 journals and has led numerous national and international research projects. Her work includes developing luminescent materials for biomedical applications and exploring metal-based anticancer agents. Recognized globally, she is among the World’s Top 1% Scientists per Elsevier and Stanford rankings. Her academic roles include editorial board memberships, participation in EU programs, and supervision of doctoral research. She actively engages in educational initiatives, including international conferences and curriculum development for the Faculty of Pharmacy’s Health Technology Assessment programs.
