Dr. Gabriele Lazzari is a Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Literature at the University of Surrey's Literature and Languages department. He holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Rutgers University. His research focuses on contemporary literature's engagement with transnational migrations, colonial legacies, and racial modernity, particularly through the lenses of comparative literature and novel theory. Lazzari's work bridges postcolonial studies with global literary analysis, emphasizing Southern European contexts such as Italy's Black Mediterranean and diasporic narratives. His recent publications include the monograph *New Global Realism: Thinking Totality in the Contemporary Novel* (2024) and articles on authors like Teju Cole and Igiaba Scego. He supervises PhD projects in contemporary literature, comparative literature, and postcolonial/decolonial studies. Lazzari teaches modules on global literatures, postcolonial fictions, and critical theory at the University of Surrey, building on his prior teaching experience at Rutgers University in comparative literature and Italian studies. His research explores intersections of race, migration, and literary form through case studies in African, South Asian, and Italian literature. Key themes include peripheral realism, translingualism, and decolonial methodologies. Lazzari is affiliated with the Mobilities in Literature and Culture Research Centre and the Equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives at Surrey.
