About
Tamalika Roy serves as a Doctoral Research Fellow at Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) since 2023, conducting research under the 'Crafting Entanglements: Afro-Asian Pasts of the Global Cold War (CRAFTE)' project. Concurrently, she is a PhD candidate and UGC Senior Research Fellow at Jawaharlal Nehru University since 2022.
Her academic background includes:
- M.Phil in Comparative Literature (Jadavpur University, 2021) as UGC Junior Research Fellow
- Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Humanities (Jadavpur University, 2020)
- MA in English Literature (Jadavpur University, 2019)
- BA in English Literature (Jadavpur University, 2017)
Roy's research centers on women's internationalism during the Cold War, specifically Indian women's Afro-Asian solidarity networks through the Women's International Democratic Federation (WIDF). She examines how these networks reshaped women's rights movements in India while reimagining societal roles within anti-war, anti-imperialist frameworks. Her interdisciplinary work bridges gender history, postcolonial theory, and performance studies.
Her publications reveal strong trends in cultural politics and marginalized narratives, particularly exploring how theatre functions as both historical document and activist tool in South Asian contexts. This reflects her dual focus on Cold War solidarity movements and contemporary performance activism.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- UGC Senior Research Fellowship (2022–present)
- UGC Junior Research Fellowship (during M.Phil studies)
Roy's research is institutionally supported through ZMO's Doctoral Fellowship and UGC funding. She actively participates in international academic networks, including presentations at IFTR Accra (2023) and summer schools at University of Cologne (2023) and Northwestern University (2024).
She operates within ZMO's 'State and Society' research program, utilizing archives from Amsterdam, New Delhi, and Kolkata to investigate transnational women's movements and their contemporary legacies.
