Dr. Zulqarnain Rashid is a Senior Research Fellow and Technical Lead for Digital Healthcare at King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). He leads cross-functional projects focusing on product development, data collection from wearable devices and smartphones, and collaborations with clinicians, software developers, and data scientists. Previously, he was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Dundee, focusing on assistive technologies for individuals with severe communication and physical disabilities. He earned his PhD from Pompeu Fabra University (2016), researching independent living for wheelchair users via IoT. His work spans digital healthcare, IoT, accessibility, and mobile health.
Key projects include RADAR-CNS (remote assessment of brain disorders), MAAM (cardiometabolic risk in ADHD), and EDIFY (eating disorder recovery trajectories). He also developed the open-source RADAR-base platform for remote patient monitoring. His research emphasizes wearable devices and smartphone data for mental and physical health conditions, including depression, ADHD, and epilepsy. Collaborations include Queen Mary University of London, the University of Cambridge, and international institutions.
Rashid's work has been published in high-impact journals like JMIR Mental Health and Journal of Medical Internet Research. He has spoken at events such as DevOps Live and contributed to public engagement, including a Conversation article on AR for disabled shoppers. His current focus includes longitudinal studies on seasonal depression, COPD monitoring, and clinical trial infrastructure using RADAR-Base.
