Zoë Sinel is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Research & Graduate Studies) at Western University Faculty of Law. She holds academic degrees including an SJD from the University of Toronto, MPhil and BCL from Oxford, JD from Toronto, and BA from UBC. Her research focuses on private law, legal theory, and tort law, with a specialization in the treatment of emotions in tort law and social equality dimensions. She leads the SSHRC-funded monograph Just Feelings: A Tort Law Theory of Emotion and co-founded the Tort Law and Social Equality Project.
Her scholarly work appears in journals such as the University of Toronto Law Journal, Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, and Restitution Law Review. She serves as editor of the Canadian Journal of Law and Jurisprudence and is an affiliate faculty member of the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies.
Her awards include the Western University Faculty Scholar designation (2020–2022). Prior to Western, she was a Visiting Researcher at Harvard Law School.
