Zi Liang

Zi Liang is an Adjunct Professor in Music Arts at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she teaches piano and harpsichord. Originally from Xi’an, China, she maintains an active performance career alongside her academic responsibilities and private studio (A to Z Music Studio).

Her educational background includes degrees from Queens College at City University of New York, New York University, and she is completing her doctorate at the University of Cincinnati. This academic foundation supports her dual expertise in performance and pedagogy.

Her research and performance interests focus on historical keyboard practices, particularly Baroque repertoire. She specializes in comparative interpretations of works across period instruments, with current emphasis on J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Her scholarly activities include conference presentations for the National Certified Teachers of Music and publications in the MTNA e-Journal.

She has received recognition including:

• Best Piano Accompaniment at the Fourth Chorus Art Festival in Inner Mongolia

As an educator, she combines university instruction with private studio teaching and professional development through the National Certified Teachers of Music. Her performance collaborations include work with the GRAMMY-nominated INSCAPE Chamber Orchestra, demonstrating her commitment to both solo and ensemble artistry.

Her current major project involves a 2-CD recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations on both harpsichord and piano for MSR Classics, representing a significant contribution to historical performance practice documentation.
