Dr. Zezhou Yang is affiliated with the Institute for Near Eastern and East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). He holds a PhD in South Asian Studies from SOAS, University of London (2024), with a thesis focusing on decolonization and transculturation between Nepal and China. His academic background includes an MA in Intensive South Asian Studies (SOAS, 2017) and a BA in Hindi Language and Literature from Beijing Foreign Studies University (2015).
His research interests center on Trans-Himalayan (im)mobility, China-Nepal dynamics, decolonizing knowledge production, and the intersection of human-non-human interactions. He has taught courses at SOAS on qualitative research methods, decolonial theory, and remapping area studies, emphasizing ethnographic fieldwork and contemporary cultural politics in South Asia.
Dr. Yang’s publications explore digital ethnography during the pandemic, Sino-Nepal cultural diplomacy, and transnational tourism. He is a member of the Britain-Nepal Academic Council, Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies, and the Youth Forum of Area Studies.
