Michael J Hutt is a Professorial Research Associate at SOAS, University of London's School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics. He earned his BA in South Asian Studies (Hindi literature) and PhD on Nepali language history from SOAS.
His research spans modern Nepali literature, Bhutanese refugee issues, Himalayan art, and diaspora communities. He led the GCRF-funded project 'After the Earth’s Violent Sway' examining cultural impacts of Nepal's 2015 earthquake.
Hutt supervises doctoral candidates including Rabia Latif Khan (Hazara identity), Jayanta Rai (Nepal restructuring), and Zezhou Yang (Nepal-China relations). Recent publications address Dalit literature, post-earthquake cultural expression, and constitutional reforms.
