Zane L. Berge

Professor Zane L. Berge is a faculty member in the Department of Education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), affiliated with the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Systems Development from Michigan State University (1988). Previously, he served as Director of the Training Systems, Instructional Systems Development Graduate Program at UMBC and Director of the Center for Teaching and Technology at Georgetown University. His career spans academic and corporate roles, including leadership positions in business organizations.

His research focuses on distance education, mobile learning, training in the workplace, and computer-mediated communication. He has authored/edited 14 books and contributed over 300 book chapters, articles, and conference presentations. His educational background includes a BS in Photo Management/Business Administration (Rochester Institute of Technology, 1977), MBA coursework at the University of Michigan, and a PhD with minors in business, learning and cognition, and statistical methods.

Dr. Berge’s expertise bridges instructional design, technology integration, and organizational training. His work emphasizes practical applications of technology in education and workplace learning.
