Dr. Yunis Alam is the Head of the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Bradford. His research focuses on race, ethnicity, consumption patterns, and the sociological analysis of car culture. He explores themes such as Islamophobia, postcolonial literary fictions, and the intersection of ethnicity with urban spaces. Alam has published extensively on multiculturalism, social cohesion, and the role of automobiles in identity construction. His work includes a seminal book, *Race, Taste, Class and Cars* (2020), which examines how car culture reflects socio-economic divisions and racialized identities. He currently leads projects on coloniality and creative cultures, and advises PhD students researching topics ranging from maternal mental health to counter-terrorism policies. His ethnographic fieldwork spans multi-ethnic urban environments, particularly in Bradford, exploring lived diversities through streetscapes and everyday interactions.
