Yuli Shan is a Professor in Sustainable Transitions at the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth, and Environmental Sciences. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of East Anglia and a master's from Fudan University. As a member of the Birmingham Institute for Sustainability and Climate Action (BISCA), he leads research on Finance for Sustainability. Previously, he worked at the University of Groningen as a Research Fellow.
His research focuses on carbon emissions accounting, climate change mitigation, and urban sustainability, with over 180 publications in high-impact journals like Nature and Science. His work has been cited over 20,000 times (H-index 65), including 32 ESI highly cited papers and 19 hot papers. He co-developed the CEADs dataset, providing emission and energy data for emerging regions.
Dr. Shan is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, an IPCC contributing author, and serves on editorial boards of journals like Science Bulletin and Sustainable Futures. His awards include the University of Birmingham Founders' Award (2023), the German Green Talents Award (2018), and the Chinese Government Award (2016). He actively engages in policy advocacy, media outreach, and educational initiatives on climate change.
