Yueming Yan serves as Assistant Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Faculty of Law, with additional appointments as Editorial Board Member of the Journal of International Economic Law, Co-Chair of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) Asia-Pacific Interest Group, and Senior Fellow at The University of Melbourne Law School. Her institutional leadership includes Cluster Head of the Transnational Economic Law and Dispute Settlement Group at CUHK's Centre for Comparative and Transnational Law (CCTL).
Her academic credentials feature a PhD in Law from McGill University (2021), Master of Law from Xiamen University (2016), and Bachelor of Law from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (2014). She maintains fluency in Mandarin, English, and conversational French.
Professor Yan's research examines the intersection of international economic law with sustainable development, anti-corruption frameworks, and dispute resolution mechanisms. Her empirical and doctrinal work critically analyzes labor provisions in trade agreements, investor-state arbitration innovations, and China's evolving engagement with global legal regimes. Current scholarship emphasizes Asia-Pacific contexts and institutional design of commercial courts.
Her publication record demonstrates consistent thematic progression toward integrating non-trade values into economic agreements, with increasing focus on climate governance and multilateral dispute settlement platforms. Recent works analyze the China-EU Comprehensive Agreement on Investment, Belt and Road Initiative legal frameworks, and anti-corruption provisions in investment treaties.
Scientific recognition includes the JIEL Excellence in Reviewing Award (2023) and Piero Bernardini Award for Investment Arbitration Law (2022), alongside multiple McGill University graduate awards. Her grant portfolio features CUHK Direct Grants for research on international commercial courts and trade-plus values.
Professor Yan actively contributes to global policy through government training programs on investment treaty management and multi-party dispute resolution. She teaches International Trade Law, Commercial Arbitration, and Investment Law at CUHK while leading the CCTL's Transnational Economic Law cluster.
