Yueming (Lucy) Qiu is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs at the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy. She holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University and a B.Eng. from Tsinghua University. Her research focuses on energy and environmental economics, leveraging big data and experimental methods to study consumer behavior, low-carbon technologies, and policy impacts. She leads the Energy Pathways initiative at the Center for Global Sustainability, exploring clean energy transitions and policy frameworks.
Qiu's research has been funded by NSF, the Sloan Foundation, and the Department of Defense. Key publications address energy inequities, methane emissions, heat pump adoption disparities, and electric vehicle barriers in China. She has received the NSF CAREER Award and APPAM's World Citizen Prize for environmental contributions. Her work bridges academia and policy, influencing climate strategies and sustainability frameworks globally.
Her current projects analyze provincial renewable energy needs in China, U.S. state-level decarbonization impacts, and methane mitigation solutions. Qiu also serves in leadership roles at USAEE and APPAM, advancing energy and environmental policy discourse.
