About
Yuefeng Sun is the Mollie B. & Richard A. Williford Professor of Quantitative Petroleum Geology at Texas A&M University's Department of Geology & Geophysics. His career includes roles at Columbia University (Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory) and The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi. He holds a B.S. from China University of Petroleum (1981), M.S. (1989), and Ph.D. (1994) from Columbia University.
Research focuses on quantitative petroleum geology, rock physics (pore structure, poroelasticity), and reservoir geophysics (seismic inversion, carbonate reservoir characterization). Key applications include unconventional resources, gas hydrates, and enhanced oil recovery. His work integrates machine learning for reservoir property prediction and develops tools like FischerLab for well-log analysis.
Publications emphasize pore structure impact on seismic properties, carbonate reservoir heterogeneity, and gas hydrate detection. Over 150 peer-reviewed articles demonstrate leadership in geophysical methods for reservoir evaluation.
