Yoonbin Cho

Yoonbin Cho is an Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago, affiliated with the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations within the Division of the Humanities. Her research focuses on the intersections of aesthetics, society, and technology in modern and contemporary South Korea, with an emphasis on transnational networks in Korean cinema.

• PhD in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory from the University of Pennsylvania (2025)

Her work investigates film adaptations, remakes, and transmediations, arguing that affective interactions between texts, media, and cultures reinforce Korean cinema's transnational essence while navigating global power structures. She also contributes to decolonizing frameworks in world cinema studies.

Teaching at the University of Chicago since 2025, she offers courses including Korean Popular Culture, Adapting East Asia, and Readings in Korean Film and Media.
