Yongwook Ryu is an Assistant Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), National University of Singapore (NUS). He specializes in International Relations with a focus on East Asia, particularly analyzing foreign policies of China, Japan, Korea, and ASEAN. His research examines national identity's impact on foreign policy, Chinese economic statecraft, Sino-Japanese relations, and Korea-Japan dynamics.
Before joining LKYSPP, he taught at Australian National University and Yonsei University, and held visiting positions at Beijing University, Tokyo University, Hitotsubashi University, and National Taiwan University. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University's Government Department, an MA in International Law from ANU, and two BAs from New Zealand universities. He is a native Korean speaker, fluent in Japanese and Mandarin.
His awards include the Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship and support from the Japan Foundation and Taiwan Government. Research focuses on constitutional revision in Japan, ASEAN's regional diplomacy, and identity-security linkages in Northeast Asia.
