Yoko Baba is a full professor and chair of the Department of Sociology at San José State University (SJSU). She holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma (1987) and has been teaching at SJSU since 1990. Her research focuses on domestic violence, youth violence, and the study of Japanese-Brazilian transmigrants in Japan. Notably, she conducted analyses at the Japanese Justice Ministry’s Research and Training Institute (2002–2003) on domestic violence perpetrators, producing a translated report titled *Study Concerning Perpetrators of Domestic Violence (DV) in Japan*.
Her teaching includes criminology, victimology, youth offender studies, and graduate-level research methods. Recent co-authored articles have appeared in journals such as *Journal of Ethnic and Cultural Diversity in Social Work*, *Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare*, and *Journal of Gang Research*. Her work bridges sociological theory with applied studies on marginalized communities and criminal justice systems.
