About
Yinon Rudich is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. He currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and previously held leadership roles as Head of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (2016-2019) and Guest Professor at ETH Zurich (2014). His research focuses on atmospheric aerosols and their impacts on climate, health, and environmental systems.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemical Physics (Honors), Feinberg Graduate School, Weizmann Institute (1989-1994)
- M.Sc. in Chemistry, Feinberg Graduate School, Weizmann Institute (1987-1989)
- B.Sc. in Biophysical Chemistry (Honors), Ben Gurion University, Israel (1984-1987)
Rudich’s work spans the chemical and physical properties of aerosols, ice nucleation, bioaerosols, and satellite observations of atmospheric processes. His research addresses critical questions about aerosol-climate interactions, health effects of particulate matter, and environmental microbiome transport. He has contributed to understanding heterogeneous atmospheric chemistry and global/regional air pollution dynamics.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (2017)
- Henri Gutwirth Prize, Technion (2016)
- Helen and Martin Kimmel Award for Innovative Investigation (2008)
- Sir Charles Clore Prize, Weizmann Institute (1997)
Rudich has held editorial roles in prominent journals, including Editor of the Journal of Geophysical Research – Atmospheres and Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics. He has participated in international steering committees, advisory panels, and review boards, such as the Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report (TOAR-II), National Marine Sciences program, and ERC Advanced Grants committee.
