Xingli Giam

Xingli Giam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His research focuses on conservation ecology, global environmental change, and freshwater ecosystems, with particular emphasis on mitigating anthropogenic impacts and developing policy-relevant solutions. He leads the Giam Lab, which integrates fieldwork, theoretical modeling, and statistical analysis to address biodiversity challenges across spatial scales.

Education: Ph.D. (2014, Princeton University), M.Sc. (2010, National University of Singapore), B.Sc. (2007, National University of Singapore). His work spans freshwater biodiversity, climate change effects, and socio-ecological systems, including studies on peatland fires in Southeast Asia and conservation compliance mechanisms.

Research interests include understanding environmental change impacts on species and ecosystems, future food and bioenergy demands' effects on biodiversity, and human attitudes toward environmental sustainability. Recent articles highlight topics like stream biodiversity under coal mining, peatland vulnerability mapping, and fish community dynamics under land-use changes.
