About
Xiaoming Shi is an Adjunct Professor at Yale School of Public Health and Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health, China CDC. With an MD from Anhui Medical University and PhD in Epidemiology from China CDC, he leads research on environmental health impacts on aging populations through projects like the China National Human Biomonitoring Study and SCOPA-China Cohort.
- MD, Anhui Medical University (1999)
- PhD, China CDC (2005)
- Director, National Institute of Environmental Health, China CDC (2015-present)
His research focuses on environmental chemical exposures (air pollution, PFAS, cadmium), lifestyle interventions for aging populations, and climate change health impacts. Recent studies analyze DNA methylation effects from pollution, dietary influences on chronic diseases, and biomarker responses to environmental stressors.
Current research trends show strong emphasis on China-specific environmental health challenges through cohort studies and biomonitoring. Key publications address air pollution's role in frailty progression (Environmental Science & Technology), dietary patterns in longevity regions (Chinese Journal of Epidemiology), and chemical exposure risks from personal care products (Journal of Hazardous Materials).
Scientific contributions include establishing China's first National Human Biomonitoring program and leading large-scale studies on environmental risk factors for aging populations. Collaborations with Krystal Pollitt and others at Yale focus on exposure science and health equity.
