Dr. William Dabback is a Professor of Music Education and Director of Graduate Studies and Admissions at James Madison University's School of Music. He holds a B.S. from West Chester University (1991), M.M. and Ph.D. from Eastman School of Music (2000/2007). Since 2005, he has taught graduate courses in music education, instrumental methods, conducting, and supervised student teachers. His research focuses on adult music learning, community music initiatives, and music teacher preparation, with presentations at international conferences and publications in journals like International Journal of Community Music and ACT. He served as National Chair of NAfME's Adult & Community Music Education SRIG (2012-2014).
Dr. Dabback maintains active roles as a conductor/clinician for youth ensembles and founded the Harrisonburg New Horizons Band. He performs with the Massanutten Brass and freelances on trumpet/cornet. Professional memberships include ISME, NAfME, College Music Society, and MayDay Group.
