William Connell is a Professor of History and holds the Joseph and Geraldine La Motta Endowed Chair in Italian Studies at Seton Hall University's Department of History. He specializes in intellectual history, Italian history (medieval and modern), and immigration studies. Connell has held prestigious fellowships, including the Andrew Carnegie Fellowship (2019) and the Fulbright 75th Anniversary Award (2023). His research bridges Renaissance political thought, religious history, and Italian-American diaspora studies.
He earned his BA summa cum laude in Ancient History from Yale University and a PhD in European History from UC Berkeley.
