William C. Hedberg is an Associate Professor of Japanese literature at Arizona State University's School of International Letters and Cultures, with an affiliation to the Center for Asian Research. He holds a Ph.D. in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from Harvard University (2012) and a B.A. from the University of Kansas (2005). His research focuses on early modern Japanese literature, Sino-Japanese cultural relations, and translation studies. He authored *The Japanese Discovery of Chinese Fiction: The Water Margin and the Making of a National Canon* (Columbia UP, 2019), which won the 2020 CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title. His work has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, American Council of Learned Societies, and others.
