Samuel E Perry

Samuel E Perry is an Associate Professor of East Asian Studies at Brown University, affiliated with the Department of East Asian Studies and Comparative Literature. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and has conducted extensive research in Japan and South Korea. His work focuses on cultural history, queer studies, and the historical relationship between Japan and Korea. Perry has published widely on topics including Korean and Japanese literature, translation, and revolutionary cultural movements.

His research areas include queer Korean and Japanese literature, colonial Korea, proletarian culture, and the Korean War's cultural impact. Perry has translated numerous works, including Five Faces of Japanese Feminism and co-edited A Century of Queer Korean Fiction. He has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Japan Foundation, and the American Council of Learned Societies.

Perry teaches courses on Japanese and Korean literature, revolutionary culture, gender studies, and translation. His current projects include a book on Japanese literature and the Korean War, and an anthology of queer Korean writings. He has advised students on topics related to queer culture and translation, and has organized international conferences on queer Asian literature.
