Kyung Hee Ha

Kyung Hee Ha is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at North Carolina State University. Her research focuses on critical ethnic studies, postcolonial feminism, and the intersectional experiences of Zainichi Koreans in Japan and beyond. She holds a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, San Diego.

Her work examines race, gender, and colonialism through studies of Zainichi Korean diaspora communities, transnational feminist movements, and the socio-political dynamics of multiculturalism in East Asia. Courses taught include Cultural and Ethnic Diversity in Japan, Transnational Feminism, and Race and Ethnicity in Japan.

Key research themes include the cultural politics of North Korean schools in Japan, transpacific solidarity against Japan’s military sexual slavery system, and the navigation of statelessness among Zainichi Koreans in the U.S. Her publications span peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, addressing topics like intersectional feminism, migrant identity, and historical memory.

Ha’s academic affiliations include interdisciplinary roles in Asian Language Studies, Japanese Studies, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at NC State. Her scholarship bridges theoretical innovation with grassroots activism, emphasizing social justice and decolonial frameworks.
