Wendy Zhou

Wendy Zhou is a Professor in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. Her research focuses on geohazard assessment, remote sensing applications, and numerical modeling of geological processes. She holds a Ph.D. in Geological Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology and an M.S. in Computer Science from the same institution. Additional degrees include an M.S. in Geological Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a B.S. in Engineering Geology from China University of Geology.

Her research areas include GIS applications in natural resource management, SAR and PSInSAR techniques for ground movement monitoring, and rock mass characterization. She teaches courses such as EPICS 251 (GIS), GEGN 475 (Applications of Geographic Information Systems), and GEGN 575 (Advanced GIS).

Zhou’s work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, combining geomatics, machine learning, and field investigations to address challenges in geohazard mitigation, urban subsidence, and sustainable resource management. Her recent studies explore topics like landslide susceptibility modeling, tunneling-induced ground deformation, and flood risk in global megacities.
