Wendy Samter is a Professor of Communication and Language Studies at Bryant University. She holds a B.A. from LaSalle University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Purdue University. Her research focuses on interpersonal communication, conflict management, family communication, and the role of religion in coping with stress. She has received numerous awards, including the Distinguished Faculty Member (2013) and the Since 1863 Faculty Award (2009).
Her teaching spans undergraduate courses like communication theory, research methods, and public speaking, as well as graduate-level courses in interpersonal communication and communication in intimate relationships. She has directed large communication courses and internship programs.
Key research lines include communication skill performance, cultural variations in communication, and applied areas like religion in coping and social marketing. She is a member of organizations such as the National Communication Association and the Association for Teaching Family Science.
