Dr Wasif Naeem is an Associate Professor (Reader) at Queen’s University Belfast, affiliated with the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He is a core member of the Centre for Energy, Power and Intelligent Control (EPIC) and the Centre for Intelligent Autonomous Manufacturing Systems (iAMS). His research focuses on autonomous systems, including collision avoidance, path planning, and cooperative control for marine, aerial, and land vehicles. He has supervised multiple PhD students in robotics and intelligent systems.
Dr Naeem holds a PhD from the University of Plymouth and has led several EPSRC, InnovateUK, and EU-funded projects. Notable achievements include developing COLREGs-compliant navigation algorithms for autonomous ships and winning the Michael Richey Medal and Denny Silver Gilt Medal for his work in marine control systems.
His research interests span control systems, robotics, and SLAM technologies. He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and serves on EPSRC review panels and international conference committees.
