Volker Hermann Schmidt

Volker H. Schmidt is Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at the National University of Singapore. He holds a Master's in Sociology from Bielefeld University and PhD from University of Bremen. Schmidt was a J.F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow at Harvard University and has held fellowships at University of Münster and University of Bielefeld. His research focuses on global social change, social theory, and normative analyses of justice.

Schmidt's research examines large-scale social transformations in East Asia through the lens of 'Global Modernity' and investigates sociological conceptualizations of society. His recent work critically examines the genealogy of sociological concepts and contemporary challenges like AI governance.
