Viren Swami

Viren Swami is a Professor of Social Psychology at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Anglia Ruskin University. He serves as co-director of the ARU Centre for Societies and Groups and director of the Centre for Psychological Medicine (a collaboration with Perdana University in Malaysia).

• Research Focus: Body image in cultural contexts, mental health literacy, psychometric validation, and nature’s impact on psychological well-being
• Key Contributions: Development of the Breast Appreciation Scale (BrAS), refinement of the Body Acceptance by Others Scale-2, and exploration of nature-based interventions for body image improvement

Scientific Recognition:

• Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society
• Ranked in the top 2% of most-cited scientists globally

Public Engagement: Author of the acclaimed book Attraction Explained and founder of the Plug In Your Brain initiative to promote psychological understanding.
