About
Vincent O Brien is a Lecturer in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at South East Technological University (SETU). His work focuses on signal processing, embedded systems, machine learning, and engineering education. He holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from the University of Limerick (2012-2018), a Master's (2007-2009), and a Bachelor's (2000-2004) in Electronic Systems, also from UL.
Research Interests:
- Design of digital signal processing algorithms for data converters
- Development of signal processing techniques for embedded systems
- Machine learning applications in embedded systems
- Virtual Reality (VR) integration in engineering education
Recent research trends emphasize combining machine learning with embedded systems, particularly in feature representation and zero-shot learning. His work on VR explores its efficacy in engineering training, with preliminary studies showing promising outcomes in undergraduate education.
No scientific awards are listed. He is currently accepting PhD students in his research areas. His research includes collaboration on hardware testing algorithms and contributions to metric embeddings in neural networks.
His work is disseminated through journals like Journal of Universal Computer Science and conferences such as SEFI 2023.
