About
Victor Hugo Beltran Ramirez is a Researcher at James Cook University, where he has been contributing to the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies for over a decade. His work bridges coral reef ecology, physiology of algae-coral symbiosis, and molecular biology of GFP-like proteins in Acropora millepora.
He holds a BSc with Honors in Marine Biology from La Paz Baja California University and a Master's in Marine Science from the National University of Mexico. His PhD thesis explores the temporal and spatial expression of coral GFPs during embryogenesis, which he submitted in 2022. Postdoctoral research will further investigate their functional roles in reef ecosystems.
Victor’s research interests span coral reef resilience, marine ecosystem dynamics, and climate change impacts on tropical marine systems. He has collaborated on projects analyzing reef ecology across the Pacific Ocean and is passionate about applying molecular techniques to ecological questions.
Outside academia, Victor enjoys playing harmonica and exploring Australia’s outback landscapes.
