Victor Huertas Martin

Victor Huertas Martin is a Research Officer & Media Assistant at James Cook University (JCU), associated with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. His work focuses on coral reef ecosystems, climate change impacts, and evolutionary adaptations of marine organisms. He holds a Master’s in Marine Biology and Ecology from JCU (2016) and a PhD investigating mucus-based feeding adaptations in wrasses.

Research Interests: Coral reef resilience, trophic adaptations in fish, climate change effects on marine biodiversity, and the interplay between human societies and reef ecosystems. His PhD research on tubelip wrasses highlighted novel feeding mechanisms enabled by mucus secretions.

Publications & Media: Recent work includes studies on coral heat tolerance, socio-economic impacts of fisheries decline, and shifts in fish coloration linked to coral degradation.
