Luis Vega is a Full Professor at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) since 1995 and has served as Scientific Director of the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) from 2013 to 2019, and continues in a leadership role since 2018. He specializes in mathematical physics, fluid mechanics, and nonlinear partial differential equations. His research interests include Fourier analysis, turbulence modeling, and spectral theory. Vega has held significant administrative roles, such as Director of the PhD program in Mathematics at UPV/EHU and Director of the inter-university master’s program in Applied Mathematics. He has been awarded the prestigious Blaise Pascal Medal (2014) and is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (2012).
Awarded multiple grants, including the ERC-Advanced Grant and Severo Ochoa Excellence Accreditation, he has led strategic initiatives like the Strategic Network of Mathematics (Ministry of Science and Technology, Spain). His career spans academic leadership roles, including vice-president of the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society and directorships in biomedical research institutions.
