About
Vlatko Vedral is a Professor of Quantum Information Science at the University of Oxford and a Governing Body Fellow at Wolfson College. He concurrently holds positions as Professor of Physics at the National University of Singapore (Department of Physics) and Principal Investigator at the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT). His career includes roles as Centenary Professor of Quantum Information at Leeds University (2004–2009), Reader in Quantum Physics at Imperial College (2003–2004), and postdoctoral fellowships at Merton College and Elsag-Bailey.
Education: PhD (1995–1998) and BSc (1992–1995) in Physics from Imperial College London, specializing in Theoretical Physics. His doctoral work on quantum entanglement is foundational to his later review in Rev. Mod. Phys.
Research focuses on quantum physics, quantum information/computation, and many-body systems. He pioneered quantum discord theory and explored quantum effects in biological systems. Recent leadership includes directing a 15-member Oxford team on bio-inspired quantum technologies at the James Martin School.
Publications: Over 300 papers (including 44 Phys. Rev. Letters, 13 Nature articles) with 25,000+ citations (h-index 62). Delivered 300+ invited lectures globally, including plenaries at major conferences and public talks like Café Scientifique (2007) and New Scientist events (2016).
Supervised 40+ PhD students across institutions in the UK, US, and Singapore. Organized international meetings (e.g., Quantum Discord 2011) and serves on editorial boards (Annalen der Physik, JPhysA).
