Vaughn Scribner is an Associate Professor at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). His research spans diverse topics in colonial and early modern history, including tavern culture, humanity’s fascination with merpeople, and historical attempts to dominate nature. He has authored three notable books: Under Alien Skies (2024), Merpeople: A Human History (2020), and Inn Civility (2019).
Scribner teaches courses on colonial and Revolutionary America, the Enlightenment, the Atlantic slave trade, and historical methods, often integrating experiential learning through summer study-abroad programs. He earned his graduate degree at the University of Kansas (2008–2013) and resides in Arkansas with his wife, Kristen, enjoying outdoor activities and travel.
