Buckley T. Foster is an Assistant Professor of Arkansas History at the University of Central Arkansas, where he coordinates the Southern and Arkansas Studies Minor. With over 25 years of teaching experience, he has held roles as Senior Lecturer and Visiting Assistant Professor at institutions across the South and Midwest.
- Education: Ph.D. in 19th-century Southern History (Mississippi State University), B.A. and M.A. in History (University of Arkansas, Fayetteville)
Dr. Foster specializes in American, Southern, and Military History, with a focus on Arkansas. His research spans Civil War military campaigns, rural life in Arkansas, and the history of hunting and conservation. He is also committed to public history, mentoring students, and community engagement.
Dr. Foster’s publications include peer-reviewed journal articles in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly, popular history magazines, and two books: So Great Was the Slaughter (2025, Arkansas Gem honoree) and Sherman’s Mississippi Campaign (2006). He is currently finalizing an edited Civil War diary for 2026 release.

As a public historian, Dr. Foster has directed student theses, overseen service-learning museum projects, and served as a judge for Arkansas History Day. He also established the James L. Foster and Billy W. Beason Award to support graduate research in Arkansas history.
