Vassilis Papaefstathiou

Vassilis Papaefstathiou serves as Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Crete, Greece, and holds an Affiliated Researcher position at the Computer Architecture and VLSI Systems Laboratory within FORTH's Institute of Computer Science in Heraklion, Crete.

His research spans critical domains in computing systems including Computer Architecture, High-Performance Computing, Packet Switch Architectures, High Speed Interconnects, Network Processing Architectures, Hardware Security, Storage Systems, and Embedded Systems, with emphasis on hardware-level innovations for performance and security.

Dr. Papaefstathiou teaches core courses such as Digital Circuits Lab (CS220), Computer Systems Architecture (CS425), and Digital Circuits Design Lab using EDA Tools (CS523). He leads FORTH's contributions to the EU-funded European Processor Initiative (EPI) project, coordinating hardware RTL design, chip bring-up, and testing for next-generation processor development.
