Vamegh Rasouli

Vamegh Rasouli is a Professor & Department Head in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Wyoming, holding the LeNorman Endowed Leadership Chair. His academic journey includes roles as Department Chair and Continental Resources Distinguished Professor at the University of North Dakota (UND), and Senior Lecturer/Professor at Curtin University, Australia. He has over 18 years of experience in academic leadership, curriculum development, and industry collaboration.

Dr. Rasouli earned his PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London (2002), following an M.Sc. in Engineering Rock Mechanics (1997) and B.Sc. in Mining Engineering (1995) from Iranian institutions. His research focuses on Petroleum Geomechanics, Hydraulic Fracturing, Wellbore Stability, and Unconventional Reservoirs, with a strong emphasis on industrial applications and sustainability.

Key professional contributions include establishing advanced labs (e.g., Drilling Simulator, Virtual Reality Lab), securing over $10M in annual research funding, and advising over 20 PhD and 100 MSc students. He collaborates with Schlumberger through their NExT program, delivering global industry courses on topics like Geomechanics and Drilling Engineering. His projects address challenges in CO₂ storage, hydrogen energy, and reservoir optimization.

Dr. Rasouli has led multi-million-dollar initiatives, including the North Dakota CarbonSAFE project and studies on Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). His work integrates geomechanical modeling, machine learning, and field experiments to advance petroleum engineering practices.
