Usman Naeem

Dr. Usman Naeem is a Reader in Computer Science Education at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. He holds a PhD from Queen Mary University of London (2009) and is a Queen Mary Academy Fellow in Learner Engagement Analytics. His research focuses on educational and assistive technologies, including machine learning, mobile computing, and ambient intelligent environments. Usman has over 15 years of teaching experience, covering undergraduate and postgraduate modules such as Fundamentals of Web Technology, Software Engineering, and Entrepreneurially-minded Program Assessment. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a Senior Member of the IEEE.

His research interests include learner engagement analytics, context-aware systems, gamification, and mobile sensing. He has contributed to pedagogical frameworks like mySkills for employability skill development and pioneered data-driven interventions for capstone projects. Usman has also explored hybrid learning environments and the impact of technologies like generative AI on teaching practices. His work spans collaborations with institutions such as Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunication (China) and Hangzhou Dianzi University (China).
