Ufuk Serin

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ufuk Serin is an academic at the Middle East Technical University (METU), serving as Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture within the Faculty of Architecture. His expertise spans Late Antique and Byzantine Art, Architecture, Archaeology, and Topography, with a focus on Cultural Heritage Conservation. He holds a Ph.D. from the Pontificio Istituto di Archeologia Cristiana and has conducted postdoctoral research at institutions including UCLA’s Cotsen Institute and the Max-Planck Art History Institute in Florence.

Research Interests: Late Antique/Byzantine archaeology, Early Christian architecture, conservation of archaeological sites, and interpretation of material culture. His projects include the Archaeological Survey of the Gulf of Mandalya (Caria) and the Euromed Heritage III Project on Byzantine-Early Islamic relations.

Teaching: Courses include 'City in Late Antiquity and Byzantium', 'Historical Structural Systems', and 'Cultural Heritage Management'. He advises on conservation projects such as the Church of St. Clement in Ankara and the Byzantine settlement at Herakleia/Latmos.

Labs/Teams: Leads METU’s Settlement Archaeology initiatives and collaborates with international teams on heritage preservation in Ankara and Caria.
