Katinka Sewing is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Classical and Byzantine Archaeology, Department of Byzantine Archaeology and Art History at Heidelberg University. She serves as academic advisor, oversees grade/exam administration, and manages organizational affairs. Her doctoral research focused on the late antique pilgrimage church at Ephesus' harbor canal, integrating archaeological and architectural methodologies. She leads excavations in Turkey, notably the Terrace Church in Doliche, and will hold a visiting professorship at the University of Warsaw in 2024.
Education includes a PhD from Heidelberg (2020), M.A. in Historical Architectural Research (2014), and earlier degrees in Early Christian Archaeology. She has participated in excavations across Turkey, including Ephesus, Limyra, and Doliche, and contributed to digital archiving projects in Münster.
