Dr. Tyler Riordan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the School of Business, University of Queensland (UQ). In this role, he evaluates post-disaster reconstruction incentivisation programs across physical, financial, social, and emotional dimensions of resilience. Previously, he co-authored the Queensland Tourism Workforce Crisis Resilience and Recovery Strategy.
Dr. Riordan holds a PhD in Hospitality and Anthropology from UQ, where his thesis examined migrant experiences in platform-based food delivery. This research produced the multilingual Humanising food delivery work in Australia toolkit, designed to improve sector conditions through stakeholder engagement.
His research program centers on labor dynamics in the digital economy, with particular focus on disadvantaged communities navigating employment and training in platform-based 'gig' work. His interdisciplinary approach combines hospitality management, anthropology, and labor studies to address workplace justice issues for vulnerable workers. With over eight years of hospitality industry experience and community development work with vulnerable populations across Australia and Latin America, his research maintains strong practical relevance.
Dr. Riordan's recent publications reveal consistent engagement with platform economy justice, migrant worker experiences, and workforce resilience across tourism and hospitality sectors.
