Tyler Jacks is the David H. Koch (1962) Professor of Biology at MIT and co-director of the Ludwig Center at MIT. He has held academic leadership roles, including director of the MIT Center for Cancer Research (2001–2021) and is currently President of Break Through Cancer. His research focuses on genetic mechanisms of cancer, tumor immunology, and preclinical cancer models.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Harvard College
- PhD in Biological Sciences, University of California, San Francisco (under Harold Varmus)
- Postdoctoral training with Robert Weinberg at Whitehead Institute
Research Interests:
Dr. Jacks pioneered mouse models for studying cancer genetics and tumor progression. His lab investigates immune interactions in cancer, including T cell antigen engineering and organoid-based systems. Key focuses include metastasis, precision medicine, and immuno-oncology.

Over 400 publications spanning cancer biology and immunology. Notable awards include the AACR Outstanding Achievement Award, Paul Marks Prize, and election to National Academies.
