Tse-Chuan Yang

Tse-Chuan Yang is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University at Albany, State University of New York. He holds a PhD in Demography and Rural Sociology from Pennsylvania State University (2008), an MA in Social Development and Policy from National Taiwan University (2003), and a BS in Rural Sociology from National Taiwan University (2001).

His research examines spatial demography, mortality patterns, and health disparities, with specific focus on how neighborhood environments contribute to health outcome gaps across racial/ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic dimensions. Methodologically, he develops geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial statistical approaches. Current projects investigate determinants of cancer care in Appalachia and mechanisms linking healthcare system distrust to health inequalities.

Recent publications (2022-2024) demonstrate strong methodological focus on spatial modeling techniques (e.g., geographically weighted quantile regression) applied to diverse health contexts including opioid epidemics, COVID-19 disparities, cognitive aging, and neighborhood effects. His work consistently incorporates multilevel analysis of structural determinants across US counties.
