Trina Fletcher

Dr. Trina Fletcher is Assistant Professor of Engineering and Computing Education at Florida International University's College of Engineering & Computing. Her interdisciplinary research examines diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM, with particular focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), financial impacts on student persistence, and African American women in engineering.

She holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Education from Purdue University, M.S. in Engineering Management from George Washington University, M.S. in Operations Management from University of Arkansas, and B.S. in Industrial Technology from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (HBCU).

Dr. Fletcher's work investigates systemic barriers affecting underrepresented groups in engineering and computing education. Her NSF CAREER project analyzes African American women's experiences across formal/informal STEM education contexts, while other funded research explores HBCUs' role in graduate degree attainment and COVID-19's impact on broadening participation.

Publications document how intersecting identities affect STEM pathways, including award-winning analyses of outreach program effectiveness. Recent articles quantify COVID-19's impact on belonging at HBCUs and identify missed opportunities for diversity through examining Black women's degree attainment patterns.
