Treva Lindsey is a Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at The Ohio State University and co-founder of Black Feminist Night School at Zora’s House. Her work centers African American women’s history, Black popular culture, and intersectional feminist theory. She holds a Ph.D. from Duke University (2010) and has taught at Ohio State since 2010.
Her research explores Black feminism(s), hip hop studies, and critical race/gender theory. Notable publications include America Goddam: Violence, Black Women, and The Struggle for Justice (UC Press, 2020) and Colored No More (2017), an acclaimed study of Black womanhood in Washington D.C. She has held prestigious fellowships including the ACLS/Mellon Scholars and Society Fellowship (2020-21) and Harvard’s Equity for Women and Girls of Color Fellowship (2016-17).
Her recent articles address topics like Black Lives Matter activism, respectability politics, and cultural critiques of Grammy awards. Lindsey also contributes to major media outlets including CNN, The Washington Post, and Teen Vogue, bridging academic scholarship with public discourse.
