Travis Malone

Dr. Travis Malone is the appointed Dean of the Batten Honors College at Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU), effective post-2020/2021 academic year. Previously, he served as Professor of Theatre and Founding Dean of the Susan S. Goode School of Arts and Humanities. His roles included overseeing construction of the Fine and Performing Arts Center, fundraising, and faculty coordination. He holds a Ph.D. in Theatre from Bowling Green State University, a Master’s from Kansas State University, and a Bachelor’s from Sterling College.

Research focuses on film-theatre intersections, musical adaptations, and theatre program assessment. Professionally, he has directed/acted nationally, worked in LA on Disney/Fox projects, and remains active in Hampton Roads theatre. He teaches courses in Directing, Technical Theatre, Acting for Camera, and study-abroad theatre modules.

As Dean, he leads the Batten Honors College, a selective residential program for 160 global scholars emphasizing ethical leadership and environmental stewardship. Previously, he chaired VWU’s Humanities Division and coordinated the Theatre Department. His professional affiliations include the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
