Travis Holmes

Travis Holmes is a Visiting Professor at the Gies College of Business, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Missouri-Columbia (2022). His research focuses on entrepreneurship, business ethics, philosophy of science, decision theory, and theory of mind. Holmes has held academic positions including Instructor at the University of Missouri and Georgia State University, and was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Pittsburgh. His work bridges philosophy and economics through interdisciplinary approaches to scientific explanation and uncertainty modeling.

Education includes a PhD in Philosophy (UMKC, 2022), MA in Philosophy (UMKC 2018 and GSU 2015), and BA in Philosophy and English (Tulane, 2009). He has received awards such as the Outstanding Graduate Student (2022) and McQuinn Fellowship (2017-2019). Holmes’ publications span journals like British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Science, and Studies in History and Philosophy of Science, addressing topics ranging from continuum idealizations to entrepreneurial agency under uncertainty.

Teaching certifications include diversity/inclusivity and online pedagogy training from UMKC (2021). His research has explored cognitive models, mathematical explanations, and Knightian uncertainty frameworks, with ongoing projects in asymptotic biological models and micro-to-pattern level economic modeling.
